Community Services

Supporting digital confidence, inclusion, and opportunity across the North East

North East Digital Skills exists to ensure no one is left behind in an increasingly digital world.

We work directly with individuals and communities facing barriers to employment, learning, or everyday digital access — providing practical support that builds confidence as well as skills.

Our community programmes are free or subsidised, hands-on, and designed to meet people where they are — not where systems assume they should be.

Who We Support

We work with adults who may:

  • Be unemployed or returning to work
  • Lack confidence using computers or digital services
  • Struggle with online forms, job applications, or email
  • Be changing careers or moving into office-based or IT roles
  • Feel excluded by fast-changing technology

We also support community groups and organisations that work with:

  • Individuals affected by digital exclusion
  • Jobseekers
  • Low-income households
  • Older adults
  • Career changers

What We Offer the Community

Free & Subsidised Training

Our sessions include:

  • Basic digital skills for everyday life
  • Workplace IT skills (email, documents, online systems)
  • AI essentials for everyday and work use
  • Online safety and cyber awareness
  • Confidence-building sessions for beginners

Practical & Supportive Delivery

Our training environment is designed to feel safe, supportive, and encouraging.

  • Friendly, non-judgemental environment
  • Small group or one-to-one sessions
  • Plain English — no jargon
  • Hands-on learning with real devices

Removing Barriers to Learning

We understand that many people avoid training because of:

  • Cost
  • Fear of “not being good with computers”
  • Previous negative education experiences
  • Fast-paced or impersonal courses

That’s why our approach is different.

We focus on:

  • Support without pressure
  • Confidence first
  • Learning by doing
  • Progress at your pace

No judgement. No embarrassment. Just practical support to help you move forward.

Working With Partners

We actively collaborate with:

  • Jobcentre Plus
  • Local councils
  • Charities and community organisations
  • Libraries and community hubs
  • Employability and support programmes

Partnership working allows us to reach the people who need support most and deliver practical digital skills training in trusted, accessible community settings.

We welcome conversations with organisations that share our commitment to improving digital confidence, employability, and inclusion across the North East.

Community Impact

Our aim is to:

  • Improve access to employment and further training
  • Reduce digital exclusion across the region
  • Build long-term confidence — not just short-term skills
  • Create clear pathways into work or continued learning

All income generated through paid business training is reinvested into community programmes, enabling us to deliver more free and subsidised support where it is needed most.

We measure success not just by course completion, but by increased confidence, improved employability, and real progression opportunities.
